Outline of Final Research Achievements

We have been taking a lead in the research focuses on natural alkaloids with a view to develop a new drug. In this research, we have accomplished the total syntheses of many monoterpenoid indole alkaloids (strictamine, pleiocarpamine, normavacurine, C-mavacurine, andranginine, kopsiyunnanine E and others) with our original synthetic strategy.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

モノテルペノイドインドールアルカロイドには強力な活性を有する化合物が多く、既に医薬品として使用されている化合物も多い。今回我々がモノテルペノイドインドールアルカロイドを多数全合成したことにより、未だ全合成が達成されていないインドールアルカロイド類の合成に有用な手法を示したと言える（有機合成化学分野への貢献）。
また、全合成を達成した化合物やそれらの誘導体が新薬となる可能性につながる初めの一歩であり、非常に意義が大きい（薬学分野および社会への貢献）。
