Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Adipocytes are hypertrophied in obese subjects. The hypertrophied adipocytes show functional abnormality, leading to whole-body insulin resistance. We focused on hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF), which is upregulated in hypertrophied adipocytes. Inhibition of HIF in adipocytes increased adiponectin and uncoupling protein 1, indicating adipocytes show better function.

本研究に置いて肥満に伴う脂肪細胞の機能異常発現のメカニズムの一端および脂肪に発現する低酸素誘導因子の発現制御により肥満に伴う脂肪細胞の機能異常を是正することができる可能性が示された。肥満人口は世界的に上昇してきており、糖尿病やその他合併症につながる原因として、その予防法の開発が叫ばれる中、本研究において示された低酸素誘導因子の制御による脂肪細胞の機能調節は、肥満から糖尿病につながる過程を抑制する方法につながると考えられる。
