| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
We identfied Vopp1 by chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) as gene whose histone modification has activated in osteoclastogenesis. Quantitative RT-PCR analysis revealed the expression of Vopp1 had increased in osteoclast differentiation. The knockdown of Vopp1 did not change osteclast differentiation and bone resorption, but shorten osteoclast life span.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
高齢社会において骨粗鬆症の患者は増加しており、その一因として破骨細胞による骨吸収の亢進が知られている。破骨細胞による骨吸収は破骨細胞への分化、機能（骨吸収能）、生存（寿命）により変化するが、その背景にあるメカニズムについては不明な点も多い。本研究においては、Vopp1による破骨細胞の寿命の制御が関与している可能性が示唆され、破骨細胞による骨吸収について新たな知見が得られ、今後の骨粗鬆症の治療法の進歩の一助となる可能性がある。
