In vitro and in vivo, we did not indicate that FGF21, adipocytokine, alter retinal vessel parameter. Moreover, there are no significant associations between serum FGF21 levels and retinal vessel parameters in patients with type 2 diabetes.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
今回、FGF21の網膜循環への影響を認めることができなかった、ただ以前の我々の研究で、アディポネクチンなど他の脂肪から産生されるサイトカインによる網膜循環への影響を報告していることから、すべてのサイトカインが網膜循環へ影響を与えているわけでなく、臓器特異的なサイトカインの存在を強調できたことに学術的意義があると考えている。さらに、臓器特異性がわかれば、網膜循環が関与している網膜疾患への治療ターゲットが絞られ、治療薬の開発につながるという社会的意義も示せたと考えている。
