Outline of Final Research Achievements

A mouthrinse containing essential oils and ethanol exerted no inhibitory effect on proliferation and migration of the human gingival epithelial cells.
Residues 199-316 of P. gingivalis Hgp44 are mainly responsible for adhesion to T. denticola; inhibiting this domain could potentially disrupt periodontopathic biofilm formation and maturation.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

従来，歯周炎の治療は，機械的なプラークコントロールや抗菌薬の補助的使用が主な対応であった。今回の研究で得られた知見をさらに発展させることにより，歯周病原性バイオフィルム中の異なる細菌間の付着を阻害したり，宿主細胞との相互作用を制御することによる新たな治療法開発の足がかりとなる。
