Outline of Final Research Achievements

Constipation presents unpleasant symptoms such as abdominal fullness and abdominal pain, and is found in a high percentage of elderly people in need of care. In this study, we aimed at the establishment of a proper defecation care method using an ultrasound imaging system for elderly people requiring long-term care. As a result, it was possible to evaluate and classify the fecal properties of the feces, soft feces, and normal feces from ultrasound images obtained from three places of the descending colon, sigmoid colon and rectum. Therefore, appropriate defecation care is possible by performing an ultrasound on elderly people who need constipation.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
