Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The purpose of this study is to establish a repairing method of scalelike lifts of pigment layers of thickly-painted Japanese paintings from the end of the modern era to the present day. A survey conducted in this study revealed that the current standard approach to such cases is only temporary treatment of the broken parts of the paints. In order to make a drastic solution to this problem, I have repeatedly conducted experiments on the method of making glue solution infiltrate into a painting under reduced pressure condition using a suction table and an aspirator, which makes detached pigment layers and a supporting medium stuck to each other on their entire surfaces. It is an innovative way of repairing, though there are some problems to be solved before it is put to practical use.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
