Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The present study focused on motivation among several individual differences in Japanese learners of English, and investigated the following two research questions: (1) whether the pragmatic competence of Japanese learners of English improves when they are studying abroad; and (2) the relationship between the learners’ pragmatic development and their motivational factors. The results indicated that the participants developed a comprehension of conventional implicature, while improvement was absent in non-conventional implicature. The highest scoring group, divided through a cluster analysis, showed a statistically significant result on only one factor: "confidence."

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
