Outline of Final Research Achievements

We tried to develop new materials for hydrogen storage with high hydrogen content by taking advantage of hypervalent phosphorus compounds. In the course of our research, we synthesized the first stable hypervalent compounds bearing a pentacoordinated phosphorus-tetracoordinated boron bond. Some derivatives bearing different substituents on the phosphorus atom. Trihydroborate derivative was also synthesized. We could take hydrogen and hydride out from the trihydroborate derivative under mild conditions.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

研究の過程で超原子価5配位リン原子と4配位ホウ素原子間に結合をもつ化合物を世界で初めて合成し、その構造と性質を明らかに出来た。このことは、化学物質の基本構造となる新規な化学結合の開発という点で、学術的に意義深い。この新結合をもつ化合物は安定であり、空気中で容易に取り扱うことが出来るため、将来的にそのような構造を組み込んだ材料への応用が期待できるという点で、社会的にも意義深いと考えられる。
