Outline of Final Research Achievements

Although the antiretroviral therapy successfully prolongs lives of HIV-infected patients, the current therapy is insufficient to eradicate infected cells. Exploring new type of antiviral effector cells that specifically eradicate HIV-infected cells is warranted. In this study, we sought to establish novel assay systems for antiviral effector cells and proceed functional screening using previously frozen cells that had been analyzed for nonfunctioning when tested other purposes. Although we have succeeded in establishing some new assay systems, we could not find novel type of effector cells harboring strong antiviral effector functions.
