Outline of Final Research Achievements

In this study, new mechanism of liver rengenration, based on relationship between hepatic stellate cells and Kuppfer cells has been shown. Furthermore, a new serum factor, which stimulates hepatocyte proliferation.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本研究から、肝再生の新たな分子機序が明らかになった。また、新たな肝再生因子が明らかになったことで、この再生因子を用いた新たな肝再生促進療法の可能性が開かれた。すなわち、生体部分肝移植における過小グラフトの問題や拡大肝切除に対する再生促進といった臨床上の課題を解決できる可能性がある。
