Outline of Final Research Achievements |
For the real-time monitoring of cell dynamics in live mouse retinas, we have developed an intravital imaging system utilizing confocal or two-photon laser scanning fluorescence microscopy. By exploiting this system, we successfully detected abnormalities in macrophage dynamics in pericyte-deficient mouse retinas following injections of an anti-PDGFRβ antibody, which reproduced characteristic features of human diabetic retinopathy. These achievements will contribute to elucidating dynamic movements of various types of retinal cells, including neurons, glial cells, and endothelial cells, under physiological and pathological conditions.
