| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Natural resources contain natural radioactive nuclides such as U-238 series, Th-232 series and K-40. In this study, radiological studies on fossil fuel (i.e. coal) were performed. Activity concentrations of U-238 series, Th-232 series and K-40 in coal are lower than the relevant values in the IAEA Safety Standards (10000 Bq/kg for K-40 and 1000Bq/kg for other natural radioactive nuclides).

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
現在までに、自然放射性物質を含む天然資源からの被ばくの実態について調査が実施され、いくつか物質については原子力規制庁より一定の被ばくの管理目安が導入されつつある(NORMガイドライン)。しかしながら、化石燃料については、その使用方法を含め、被ばくの状況についての情報が乏しく、規制管理の必要性を議論できるほどの十分な研究結果が得られていないため、その実態の解明が急がれている。本研究は、化石燃料等からの一般の作業者や公衆の被ばくの実態を明らかにすることを目指した研究課題である。
