Outline of Final Research Achievements

Mitochondria maintain a functional homeostasis due to own morphological dynamics by the mitochondrial fusion and fission. In this study, we investigated the involvement of micro-RNA 140 (miR-140) on mitochondrial fusion due to using a miR-140 KO mouse (miR-140 KO).
We measured a MFN-1 (Mitofusin-1) expression levels in skeletal muscle (Soleus, Plantaris) by western blotting. As a result, MFN1 expression level in miR-140 KO was not significantly different in skeletal muscles compared with that in wild type mouse.These results indicate that miR-140 don’t involve to MFN1 expression regardless of the skeletal muscle fiber type.
