Yoru no Nezame is a narrative that has some missing parts or volumes in its first half and ending.But with a help of materials filling in lacunae we could deepen our understanding of the narrative.
In conclusion, themes such as "repetition", "old age" and "Buddhism" could contribute to reconstructing the Japanese literary history centered on Yoru no Nezame.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
『夜の寝覚』研究は現存部分のみを対象とすることが多い。だが欠巻部分をも含めて検討し、他作品との関係性を探ることが重要であり、〈老い〉〈仏教〉に関する考察はその大きな手がかりとなる。また従来、作品に特徴的な多数の心理描写は主人公の心を描く主題に関わるものと捉えられてきた。しかし他の人物の心理描写や会話文との関係に見られる〈繰り返し〉に目を向けることで、多数の心理描写は作品を展開するうえでの方法であることを明らかにした。以上の成果は、『夜の寝覚』の偏向的な研究傾向や通説に問題提起し再考を促すものとなった。
