Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Stromal cell-derived factor-1α (SDF-1α) is an inflammatory chemokine that has been reported to be deeply involved in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular disease. This study aimed to exam the clinical significance of SDF-1α in cardiovascular disease. As a result, we clarified (1) high levels of SDF-1α in the peripheral blood predict secondary cardiovascular events in patients with a history of myocardial infarction, (2) Angiotensin receptor antagonists suppress the production of SDF-1α from the myocardium, (3) high levels of SDF-1α predict short-term progression of renal dysfunction. SDF-1α is deeply involved in cardiovascular diseases and may be one of the new biomarkers

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
