Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In this project, we construct R&D cycles models based on Matsuyama (1999), which can incorporate endogenous technical progress, capital accumulation, and population growth simultaneously, and analyze the heterogeneous quality of ideas in Romer model. We obtain the following four results:(1) Exogenous population growth can induce medium-term cycles through endogenous technical progress. (2) R&D cycles driven by population growth can explain seemingly contradictory empirical results on scale effects. (3) Horizontal R&D in a hybrid R&D cycles model can determine the medium-term cycles. (4) Construct an analytically tractable Romer (1990) type model with heterogeneous quality of ideas.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
