Research Abstract

材料や構造の巨大な分散により生じるスローライトは、次世代の光ネットワークに必須な光バッファーメモリー技術として期待されたが、狭帯域と高次分散のために応用されなかった。本研究では、代表者が提案したフォトニック結晶結合導波路によりこれらの問題の解決と可変性の付与による光速制御を目指した。SOI基板上に同デバイスを作製、評価し、スローライトの性能指標である遅延帯域積110、実効的なバッファー容量80という世界最高値を記録した。また局所的な加熱によって遅延を変化させることを提案、実証した。最大可変幅は105psであり、ピコ秒クラスの短パルスの遅延を10倍の範囲で変化させることに成功した。これは光バッファーメモリーの初期的な動作の世界初の実証である。
