Research Abstract

In southern area of Osaka Prefecture, numbers of large sized mounded tomb clusters including keyhole-shaped mounded tombs, that are presumed to be the tombs for the kings of Wa(倭) of approximately 5th century are allocated. In these groups of tomb clusters, the Mozu(百舌鳥) mounded cluster and Furuichi(古市) mounded cluster are included. The former is famous for Japan's largest Daisnryo(大仙陵) mounded tomb which is considered to be the tomb of the emperor Nintoku(仁徳) while the latter is famous for the second largest Konda Gobyouyama(誉田御廟山) mounded tomb which is considered to be the tomb of the emperor Ojinn(応神). In this study, (1) the topographic charts showing the older figures of the areas before urban development with the scale of 1:2,500 was made based on the aerial photographs before the development as well as (2) the data base of both mounded tombs based on the integration and organization of the conventional excavation data of both tombs. Following to this, (3) the integration of actual dimension charts of major haniwas excavated from the both tombs was conducted and (4) build-up process of these mounded tombs was clarified based on this integration. As the result of this research it was clarified that the tombs of the kings from end 4th century up to 5th century have been built in the both mounded tomb clusters of Osaka Plain and that the building of Wa king's tombs was executed interchangeably in both clusters the initial period. It is considered that the topographic charts made this time showing the older figures of the areas before development contribute much for the future research of these mounded tombs and the data base integrated and organized from the conventional excavation data as well as the integrated data of haniwa will be utilized as fundamental material for the research of the mounded tombs of 5th century.
