Research Abstract |
Kanazawa Institute of Technology (hereinafter, KIT) started Engineering Design Education (hereinafter, EDE) in 1996. KIT carried out joint Engineering Design Education with three Institutions in Asia-Pacific region: Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (USA), Asia University (Taiwan), and Singapore Polytechnic (Singapore) in 2005-2007. In order to solve problems caused by cultural difference among four institutions, a main theme for the joint Engineering Design Education was selected. The main theme was Establishing Ecological Society. KIT professors visited three institutions, discussed the procedure of the joint EDE with professors and students, and attended oral presentation of the students. KIT and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology had web conferences four times using in order to evaluate the possibility of synchronous lecture using Information and communication Technology. It was confirmed that the synchronous lecture using ICT is very effective and is possible. KIT held a poster session at the end of the Engineering Design courses, February 21 to 27, 2008) and students presented their achievements. KIT invited professors and students from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and Asia University. We organized students exchange program where students of three institutions presented their achievements in English. The students exchange program was quite successful in achieving the purposes of the joint EDE. Furthermore professors of three institutions had a meeting during the poster session. We reviewed the joint EDE program and students achievements. It was confirmed that the joint EDE program was quite successful. It was decide that the joint EDE program will be continued in the future.
