Research Abstract |
The aim of this study is to collect the existing distortions of Anglo-Saxon philosophies of science which have passed over the important facets of hard sciences implications for humanities from the viewpoint of French epistemologies. In order to achieve this object, we organized two main projects: on the one hand, we tried to do comprehensive survey of French epistemological studies on particular sciences, especially medicine, physiology, biology and psychology; on the other hand, we investigated the possibility of epistemological perspectives on applied ethics as bioethics, science ethics, and technology ethics. We delivered a symposium on French epistemology at the annual meeting of the Society of Japanese-French Philosophy in the first year of this research project so that we could present the tentative findings of our comprehensive survey of epistemologies. In the second year, we organized two conferences with French epistemologists in Paris: all members of our project made conferences about the possibility of epistemological perspectives at the IHSPT(l'Institut d'Histoire et de Philosophie des Sciences et des Technique), and Kanamori, one of our investigators, lectured on three issues from the point of view of a Japanese epistemologist at the Centre d'Alexandre Koyre. The exchange of opinions between French and Japanese scholars was very fruitful. And we focused our energy on summing up our study and have made up our collected papers in the last year of this project. This book, Epistemology in Front, is going to be published at the end of 2008 with Keio Gijuku University Press. This research project from the standpoint of epistemological understanding of science was well carried out and achieved the desired result with international exchanges of research between Japan and French.
