Research Abstract |
In this research project, the investigators conducted the following. (1) Production of a facsimile of the quadrilingual manuscript of the Muqaddimat al-Adab ; (2) Philological study of the manuscript ;(3) Creation of a database of the Mongolian words included in the manuscript ; and(4) Linguistic analyses of the Mongolian and Chagatay languages. (2) Philological study of the manuscript ; (3) Creation of a database of the Mongolian words included in the manuscript ; and (4) Linguistic analyses of the Mongolian and Chagatay languages. The 1,068-page manuscript was reproduced in colour with bibliographical introductions by two specialists of the Alisher Navoi State Museum of Literature (Academy of Sciences, Republic of Uzbekistan) and the Tashkent Islamic University. The production of the facsimile made it possible for researchers to work with the original linguistic data. In the Mongol database there is a total number of approximately 27,000 words in Roman transliteration with the relevant data. With the facsimile and the database the investigators of the project have laid a foundation for the study of the West Middle Mongolian language. The articles and related materials they prepared regarding the manuscript itself and the Mongol and Chagatay languages, are significant contributions to Altaic philology and linguistics.
