Research Abstract |
This study aims to clarify social structure of Okinawa in 60 years of post-war period by investigating consciousness of inhabitants' while considering the process of change. After its return to mainland Japan, the Okinawa society accomplished an extremely drastic change with every aspect. However, sociological research data accumulated has not been sufficient enough. In this study we collect micro-data in the life world to understand social structure of Okinawa as the macro structural change by the following three approaches. The first is the sociological viewpoint. We analyze how Okinawan peoples' life structure and the consciousness transformed in 60 years of post-war period by investigating the issues of family, globalization, ethnicity, Okinawan identity, tourism industry and Okinawa images. The second is the viewpoint of social welfare studies. We analyze the social structure and change of the life world in Okinawa mainly by examining the issues of social welfare, community-based welfare, the longevity socialization and child nursing. The third is the viewpoint of mass communication studies. We analyze the transitional processes of social structure and the life world of Okinawa by studying the issues of information, international communication, public opinion, and peace consciousness. The aforementioned data are aimed to be publicly accessible as the micro data for secondary analysis. We published a report based on the analysis of effective 885 cases as a part of research conducted in 2006-7. In addition, we applied to Cabinet Office "Public opinion poll yearbook" for publication.
