Research Abstract |
Kitakami, Abukuma, Kita-Ibaraki and Fukuoka-Saga areas were chosen to study construction of a very high energy electron-positron linear collider (LC for short in the following). In the first period (FY 2005), ground motion was measured at Esashi Earth Tide Observatory of Mizusawa National Astronomical Observatory located in the Kitakami area. Results were reported together with previous measurements (at KEK, SPring-8 and Mitsuse Road Tunnel in Saga Prefecture) in the Workshop on Ambient Ground Motion and Civil Engineering for Low Emittance Electron Storage Ring held in Taiwan and also in the Second ILC-GDE Accelerator Workshop held in Snowmass, U.S.A. And explorations were made in Abukuma and Kitakami areas. We asked a consulting company to study the construction of 50km long straight underground tunnel in four areas. We received reports from the company titled Study of Abukuma Area, Study of Kita-Ibaraki Area and Study of Sefuri and KitakamiAreas (L=50km case). Then we assigned one are

a to study construction of the tunnel in further details, and received reports titled Study of tunnel construction and "Comparison with USA sites in the tunnel construction". In the second period (FY 2006), Committee on Rock Mechanics and Tunnel Engineering Committee of Japan Society of Civil Engineers established Subcommittee on Civil Engineering for ILC Project, which examined our study results and issued a progress report. And floor movement was measured in the place allocated to the ATF2 LC test beam line. Results were reported in the IWAA06 workshop. In order to show feasibility of our idea of 1nm level precision two stage mover utilizing cam movers as a coarse mover and piezoelectric actuators as a super-high precision mover, prototype was fabricated. Performance test of this prototype revealed feasibility of our idea. Results were reported in the IWAA06. In the third period (FY 2007), Subcommittee on Civil Engineering for ILC Project examined the LCconstruction further. Ground motion was remeasured in the SPring-8 area with better seismometers, STS-2 of Streckeisen. At this measurement, an earthquake was observed in the data. This is a valuable data, because we can compare the ground motion of various geologies caused by the same vibrational source. Measurements and analysis results for Sefuri area and Esashi area were published as KEK Report 2007-6, and reported in the IWAA08 together with the analysis of the data at the time of an earthquake recorded at remeasurement at SPring-8.
