Research Abstract

海洋性島弧である伊豆小笠原マリアナ弧において大量の流紋岩マグマが噴出し,海底カルデラを形成する。大陸ではなく海洋でなぜこのようなことがおこるのか。
この疑問に端を発した研究である。
最終的に、海洋性島弧における流紋岩マグマが地殻の年代・地殻構造と密接な関わりを持っていることを示し、流紋岩マグマの成因と島弧地殻の進化に関する新しい仮説を提出して出版した。物質(岩石学・地球化学)とイメージ(地球物理学)を組み合わせた当研究および関連研究はこの分野(沈み込み帯の研究)における最先端のものである。
