Research Abstract |
Until now, we examined the effect of some food components on brain neurotransmitters and some kinds of behavior by using cell culture Iin vitro), perfusion of tissue slices, animals (in vivo) and human subjects, and the anti-stressful action of food components. Then we demonstrated that theanine, one of the main components in green tea extract, and r-aminobutyric acid (GABA) showed the anti-stressful effect in animals and subjects. Also some odor components such as limonene, terpenene or pinene in lemon essential oil showed to induce the relaxation. For example, theanine induce the release of dopamine, one of the neurotransmitters, in striatum. Therefore, we examined the mechanism of the regulation of neurotransmitters in brain, especially striatum, by using the superfusion method or brain microdialysis. 1.Studies of theanine on neuronal regulation Theanine stimulates the dopamine release from the striatum. Then several kinds of antagonist of glutaminergic, GABAergic, or glycinergic receptors were used to study the effect of theanine on dopamine release. We demonstrated the changes of suppressive Internet Explorer-ink neurotransmitters, such as glycine and GABA, after the administration of theanine. Internet Explorer.lnk 2. Studies of lemon essential oil on neuronal regulation Lemon essential oil containing limonene or terpinene affects some kinds of neurotransmitters. Also these components showed the anti-stressful effect by using communication box. 3. Studies of Mycoleptodonoides aitchisonii on neuronal regulation 4. Studies of GABA on neuronal regulation For human studies, we demonstrated the anti-stressful effect of GABA under the mathematical stress by determining the salivary chromoglanin A.
