Research Abstract |
A GPS receiver was installed in 2007 at the top of foundation, e.g., the bottom of road embankment to measure the settlement of foundation at the construction site of Yomogida tunnel of the North Kanto Highway project. Soil-water coupled elasto-plastic FEM analyses were carried out to explain the measured behavior and predict the final settlement by examining a set of parameters, initial/boundary conditions, and loading conditions. After comparing the results under different conditions, it is revealed that boundary and loading conditions have less influence on numerical prediction, and initial stress distribution has a significant role. Adjusted parameters based on laboratory tests on samples around the section with examined initial condition lead to numerical prediction of settlement with good accuracy. Management of measured data is done using the work station via cell phones. Soil-water coupled elasto-plastic FEM/mesh-free code is revised to consider the modification of design values within construction.
