Research Abstract

家畜の卵巣内には, 卵子のもととなる小さな卵母細胞が莫大な数存在している。成体の家畜の卵巣には, これらの卵母細胞の発育開始を抑制する機構が働いており, これによって哺乳類の長い生殖可能期間が保証さていると考えられる。家畜の卵母細胞の発育開始は, FOXO3Aと呼ばれる転写因子によって抑制的に制御されており, FOXO3Aの発現を一時的に抑制すると, 卵母細胞は発育を開始することが明らかとなった。また, 卵巣内の発育途上の卵母細胞を1ヶ月以上の長期間にわたって体外で培養することが可能となった。
