Research Abstract |
An electronic tag is one of the newest technology. This technology can be used in many fields and, these days, is often seen also in us the familiar scenes. For example, a ticket gate, the physical distribution management in a warehouse, and the shoplifting prevention system in a store. In our hospital, the safety management system using an electronic tag is used from November, 2004. We did this research, in order to prove the effectiveness of this system. The system which we are using is as follows. The available frequency of the electronic tag used for this research is 13.56MHz. And the staffs read IDs recorded on the electronic tag using the personal digital assistant (PDA). The electronic tag is attached to the staffs name card and injection bottle, or the patient's wristband. When the staff injects a patient, these IDs are read using PDA and these IDs are collated with a hospital information system. After reading ID, by which the combination of a patient and drugs is checked immediately, because a hospital information system and PDA can communicate by wireless LAN. When the combination of a patient's ID and ID of drugs differs, warning is displayed on the screen of PDA, therefore the staff notice, before committing a fault. If a patient's ID and ID of drugs are right combination, the execution record of injection is recorded on a hospital information system. After using this system, the incident number generated when injecting reduced significantly, compared with before (p<0.05). Time required for one injection also decreased significantly as compared with the bar code system (p<0.05). The safety management system for the injection using an electronic tag is effective in order to prevent a medical accident. And, this system is effective, also in order to make the staffs labor load reduce.
