Research Abstract |
In this research, we investigated illegal file-sharing on the Internet and did analyses from an institutional and theoretical viewpoint. The countries we visited are China, South Korea, Taiwan, and Vietnam, where we did interviews to musician, composers, and students. We could make it clear how situations about illegal behaviors in developing countries are quite different from those in developed ones In such countries, illegal CDs and DVDs take part in promotion for live performance. Most young musicians depend on those to let people know their names. Concerning file-sharing, for example in Vietnam, people did not obtain by it, because transaction costs to use it are prohibitively high compared to illegal CDs and DVDs. Besides these considerations, we theoretically analyzed effects of copy control(DRM) , as well as illegal copying, on optimal pricing. We also consider copyright of broadcasting in the digital era.
