Research Abstract |
In March 2005, we hold the international workshop at Hiroshima University. The results were published in the supplement of the Journal of Radiation Research Vol. 47 sup. Al-A224 (29 papers). There was a large difference in the estimations of radiation doses by different methods. We discussed about the Dolon village study. They were 1. TLD measurements using brick samples, 2. ESR measurements using tooth enamel samples, 3. Calculation of dose from radioactive clouds, 4. Cs-137 measurements in soil samples and dose calculation, 5. Chromosome aberration study. In conclusion, the results are about 0.5 Gy by TLD, from 0.1 to 0.5 Gy by tooth enamel measurements, about 0.5 Gy from Cs measurements in soil, and about 0.5 Gy by calculation. These values became agree each other. Thus, the contradiction was solved. In addition, chromosome aberration study suggests about 0.3 Gy, which showed also no contradiction. The former values schattered from 0 to 2 Gy but this became close each other about 0.5 Gy for the people outside. The radioactive clouds passed near Dolon village. The distance from the center of the trace to the village was found to be very sensitive. Therefore samples were collected across the trace of the radioactive cloud perpendicularly to the trace over about 10 km length. Tooth enamels are collected and measured. Blood samples are corrected and chromosome aberration and a spot mutation in the genes were studied. Questionnaire for individual dosimetry was made and used for the people there. Another questionnaire was taken to study the mental effects and to collect testifies from the people living in this area. Now data base had been constructed and this is almost finishing. Our future tasks are to estimate the individual doses and the radiation risks using them. The radiation risk estimation is started with Germany group.
