Research Abstract

We studied how to adapt the micro OS to the dynamically adaptive system, considering the general real-time OS (e.g. TOPPERS/JSP kernel), the OS for the real-time distributed processing (e.g. LP49), and the OS for sensor networks (TinyOS). We evaluated wireless ad hoc muting protocols which allow stable communication among the micro nodes, and got the prospect that DSR is most suitable for the dynamically adaptive system. As dynamic updating function of software, (1) the function to switch communication protocols in LP49, (2) the function to dynamically control activation in TinyOS, have been implemented and evaluated. We used MOTE of the sensor network system as an actual device for the micro node. Multi-server facilities in LP49 have been studied, which is necessary for general mechanism to dynamically install and uninstall functions. These show it possible to advance micro OS functions.
We studied data gathering and management for sensor networks, and then designed and implemented the simulation environment which allows simulating several sensor networks and avoids the limit when actual sensor networks should be used. This simulation system makes it easier to confirm the increase in efficiency of data gathering and the management in the large scale sensor network system.
As the application of the dynamic adaptive system, (1) we proposed the child watching and crime prevention system and evaluated its prototype, and(2) proposed the pedestrian traffic optimization mechanism and evaluated the basic facilities. In(1), we have confirmed that it is possible to provide services adaptive to the change of environment by replacing existing program with area specific program. In(2), the waiting time of pedestrians and vehicles at an intersection is reduced by leading a pedestrian to the suitable course and changing the signals timing based on using their location and movement history information.
