| Research Abstract |
This research project focuses on maps in order to prevent crimes and traffic accidents against children in the northern suburban of Osaka. The results are composed of the following three parts. 1) A review is given for twenty-nine maps previously published by schools, communities, local governments, and polices. There are two types of maps depending on the authors. They have different characteristics in their covered areas, methods of locating crimes and traffic accidents, descriptions of surrounded environment. They are discussed from view of their effectiveness and convenience. 2) Spatial distributions of crimes and traffic accidents are analyzed in this area. The results show that frequency of crime and traffic accidents are generally depending on child population with broad range, and locations of hotspots of them are influenced by land-use. 3) Two maps are prepared for parents of children in an elementary school located in this area. These maps are equipped with point distributions and density of crime and traffics accidents to show up degree of danger. And, they printed and released on world wide web with instructions for reading the maps. These maps are critically reviewed based on questionnaires to parents, and revised according to the results.
