Research Abstract |
It has been very difficult to provide 'ecological education', especially in the urban area in Japan. Because the amount of open or natural space had decreased very rapidly especially in urban areas. Preserving these spaces as children' s play area and habitat of the living things is a very important issue these days. Because "Children's Play" is an important experience to learn about the structure of nature, and also "Ecological Education" is an increasingly important subject in primary and secondary school education in Japan since 2002. Consequently, the school biotope has been planning for children's play and ecological education in a primary school in Fukuoka city, Japan. In this study, it was proposed that the workshop as process planning should be taken for the school garden planning. It was recognized that the children have been learning regional ecological structure and they showed their idea on their drawings based on the knowledge through the 24 times of the workshops from 2005 to 2006. It was discussed that it would be very important to provide the children accurate and new knowledge of ecology. Moreover, it would be needed that the children and teachers participate the biotope planning from the early stage of the planning.
