Research Abstract

This study tries to measure accessibility at building scale on GIS. The following results are obtained. First, as the result of measuring accessibility as the shortest road distance to convenience stores from all buildings in Northeast Area of Adachi Ward, Tokyo, it becomes clear that the accessibility is determined by various factors such as road network pattern, positional relationship between facility and road network, positional relationship among facilities, number of buildings located, and positional relationship between building and road network.
Next the accessibility at neighbourhood scale is compared with the accessibility at building scale through a case study of convenience store. It is revealed that the neighbourhood with the largest degree of inner variance has the same degree as the difference in accessibility found in the whole study area. As eighty percentages of the convenience stores are located along streets constructing the boundaries of neighbourhoods or outside th … More em, if the accessibility at neighbourhood scale is measured at a centre of neighbourhood, then average distance becomes longer because the centre is distant place to the location of convenience store.
Third, as the case studies of accessibility at building scale, the difference in accessibility among the stories of buildings is analyzed to show the benefit to measure accessibility at building scale. The accessibility measured to stations at building scale also reveals that the opening of a new line called as Tsukuba Express greatly improved the accessibility. The hotels in Kyoto were also evaluated in terms of accessibility at building scale.
Fourthly, to measure the accessibility considering the conditions and regulations for road, this study constructs a system that acquires the attribute of road using ArcPad and GPS in the field and transmits the data to the server in my office through edge.
Fifthly, this study also constructs a system to measure accessibility using ArcObject. A user clicks a measurement point on digital map represented by ArcGIS. Then the system is able to generate a buffer around the point and count the number of facilities in the buffer and divide population in the buffer in proportion to the area included in the buffer. Finally the system is able to calculate an accessibility index at the measurement point. Less
