| Research Abstract |
本研究は,南極海において普遍的に分布し,個体数において大型植食性カイアシ類を大きく凌ぐといわれている体長1.5mm以下の小型カイアシ類(例えばOithona, Oncaea, Ctenocalanus, Microcalanus など)の生態学的な役割について基礎的な知見を得ることを目的として行った.ものである。一連の調査研究から,南極海では,小型カイアシ類の現存量は大型植食性カイアシ類に匹敵するほど高いことが明らかとなり,南極海の物質循環において小型カイアシ類もまたは極めて重要な役割をもっていることが示唆された.
