Research Abstract |
The purpose of this study is to show clearly what kind of difference arises in water quality and internal production over irrigation reservoirs with different forest vegetation of the catchment area. The water quality of irrigation ponds which are distributing over the hilly country in western area in Saitama prefecture was investigated. As a result of comparing the water quality of irrigation reservoirs in which either evergreen conifers (Japanese cedar etc.) or deciduous broad-leaved trees (Japanese oak etc.) are carrying out dominance in the drainage basin, it turned out that there is a difference characteristic of the abundance ratio of inorganic nitrogen ions. Furthermore, the fallen leaves of Japanese cedar or Japanese oak were supplied to the field test pond made from concrete, and the monitoring of the change of water quality was carried out. As a result, when Japanese cedar was compared with Japanese oak, the concentration of origin substances (Total Nitrogen and Total Phosphorus etc.) from fallen-leaves of Japanese oak was larger than those of Japanese cedar. However, the internal production quantity evaluated by Chlorophyll a was the almost same between Japanese cedar and Japanese oak. Moreover, as a direct bad influence to the water quality of fallen leaves, a possibility of causing the low oxygen condition of lakes water was suggested irrespective of the kind of vegetation.
