Research Abstract |
This Research Project covers the following three topics: a. Development of estimating the handling time of ships b. Simultaneous berth-quay crane allocation at a conventional terminal c. Simultaneous berth-quay crane allocation at an indented terminal For "a", we developed an estimation method based on a static yard vehicle routing. Furthermore, we applied the method to a case study of the berth allocation for a container terminal at Columbo, Sri Lanka. This result was reported in a paper appearing on Transportation Research Part-E. For "b", we developed a solution method of the berth-quay crane allocation problem based on Genetic Algorithms. This result is reported in a paper appearing on Transportation Research Part-E For "c", we developed a heuristic for the berth-crane allocation problem for an indented terminal and this result is reported at a conference of LAIN. Furthermore, the output is in detail written on a paper appearing on European Journal of Operational Research
