Research Abstract

現代社会は金融経済の方面では急速に世界の一体化、グローバル化が進む一方で、民族主義を始めとする様々なナショナリスムが激化するという矛盾を抱えているとよく言われる。本研究では、そのような現代社会の源流を19世紀から20世紀にかけての世紀転換期に遡り、この時代のグローバリゼションとナショナリスムが複雑に絡み合う様相を、同時代のアメリカ文学を通して浮き彫りにし、そうすることで、近視眼的に語られることの多い現代社会を歴史的な文脈から捉え直した
