Research Abstract

1890-1910 年という第二次ボーア戦争の前後(南アが植民地からアパルトヘイト国家に移行する時期)に書かれた英語文学研究。19 世紀のCape Liberalism の思想的影響を考慮しつつ、テクストが表象する多様な「国家」「国民identity」の特徴を考察し、その形成に寄与した活字出版、戦争メディアそして読者の役割も明らかにした。その際南アの白人女性作家OliveSchreiner の著作を基軸とし、アフリカ人知識人Sol Plaatje 等を分析した。
