| Research Abstract |
The present study comprehends the actual state of Monodzukuri (manufacturing and engineering) capabilities of local suppliers in Thai automotive industry that has become the center of production and export in Southeast Asia and investigated measures and policies at firm, industry and national level.
Firstly, according with review of basic issues and analytical viewpoints, capability development regarding quality, cost, and delivery (QCD) and engineering (E) analyzed separately was studied in the framework of development stages that QCD is the basis of E, from the comprehensive perspective of Monodzukuri capability development.
Subsequently, the researchers drafted the questionnaire for the field survey, based on interviews to persons with experiences working in Thailand. From August to September 2005, in Thailand, the pilot study and interviews with person concerned in local and Japanese auto parts suppliers and related public institutions were conducted. After revising the draft questionnaire, from January to February 2006, revised questionnaires were distributed and collected. As the result, the state of capability development of auto parts manufacturers was observed. In August 2006 and March 2007, detailed case studies at respondent firms were implemented. The studies clarified firm and industry level Monodzukuri capability development as stages from QCD to E through detailed case studies.
In addition, the researchers also studied Thai Automotive Human Resource Development Program that is supported by Japanese and Thai stakeholders in public and private sectors. Based on the interviews with persons concerned including those at training sites, it was confirmed that curricula aiming at QCD and E development, step by step and comprehensively were implemented. That fact was highly evaluated with regards to comprehensive understanding of Monodzukuri capability development, in comparison with other HRD program in Thailand.
