Research Abstract

In this paper we study the Economics of Agglomeration in Local governments. In Japan lcral governments were amalgamated in the last decade. It is called Heiseno Dai Cappei. The purpose of the amalgamation is that government want to use economies of scale, for instance like a factory. Tokyo city doesn't use only economic of scale but also economics of agglomeration. Local governments should use the economics of agglomeration at the amalgamation. This paper estimate urban structure makes economics of agglomeration. This study uses GIS (Geographic Information System) and the grid-square statistics that is a data of census.
Result of the study is as follow.
1. The city has point CBD is stable in urban structures. That mean is like that city has never changed the position of CBD.
2. The city has point CBD occurred a demographic phenomenon, for instance birth rate declining and population aging, equally in whole region.
3. The city has multiple CBD is not stable in urban structures. That mean is like that city is affected in urban structure by government policy, for instance develop a network of roads.
