Research Abstract |
The main purpose of this study was to find out the practical conditions of fostering a socially trustworthy company by observing companies which brought about scandals such as bribery, corruption etc. and endeavored to recover their businesses and lost social credibility. The key concepts of the recovery of a business for these companies consist of "sustainable development", "socially trustworthy company", "corporate social responsibility", "corporate governance", "compliance", "internal control", "risk management" and so on. They are also key concepts to such companies that run a sound business. I found out four practical conditions of building up of a socially trustworthy company. Firstly, top executives should have clear guidelines for corporate ethics and proper attitude toward running a business, consider the business activity always from the beginning, ask the reason for being and the social mission of the company, and also confirm them through dialogues with directors and employees. Secondly, top executives should augment a sense of crisis together with employees, recognizing that a scandal comes into bud at the actual workplaces. Thirdly, top executives should try to eliminate a sanctuary within the company by encouraging lively discussion in the board of directors, and increase in transparency due to a fostering of an open corporate culture. Fourthly and lastly, top executives should endeavor the fostering of a socially trustworthy company, understanding that every company as a member of global society in the twenty first century is expected to contribute to the sustainable development of that society, and carry out a business fully conscious of corporate social responsibility.
