Research Abstract |
The purpose of this research is to attempt a theoretical examination on how enterprise has integrated management strategy and IT investment decision-making, and on which criteria the enterprise decides on IT investment and whether it is used for management strategy. First of all, we began a study on the importance of the gap between the information provided by computer systems, and what information is demanded by management and how the critical success factor selection analysis that can bridge the gap. Next, we considered multi-criteria IT decision making methods such as the balanced score card method, the multi-factor scoring method, the analytic hierarchy process method, and the real option approach. And, we presented the current state and issues facing Japanese venture capital funds related to the IT investment. In addition, we investigated the decision making in small and medium-sized enterprises and the relation to their operating performance, and found the importance of the relation between the concept of time in the decision making and operating performance. However, we were not able to get a clear answer on the effect measurement of the IT investment, one of our research targets. In conclusion, it is necessary to consider a lot more complex restricted conditions and limitation factors to IT investment decision in reality. In such a situation, the more sophisticated multi-factor decision making methods are demanded as long as the restricted conditions and the limitation factors can be recognized. However, it remarkably complicates the processing of the problem in the other hand. In that sense, our research clarifies the focus of the problem, and offers an important starting point.
