Research Abstract |
The purposes of this study are to implement education focused on human factors related to safety for newly employed nurses and to clarify the effectiveness of such education. Sixty-three newly employed nurses were surveyed. Of those nurses, 29 were assigned to the trained group (to receive safety education), and 34, to the control group (not to receive safety education). The trained group received two-hour safety education for the purpose of understanding human factors once a week, over a total of thee sessions. The same questionnaire was implemented before and after the safety education, and the effectiveness of education was evaluated by comparing the before and after results. The same questionnaire was implemented three months after the education to examine the sustainability of the effect of education. The results of this study suggest that safety education focused on human factors causes changes in awareness of and attitude toward safety of trainees. Furthermore, it was confirmed that the improved awareness of and attitude toward safety are sustainable. However, sufficient effect of education was not obtained due to the short period of education and complexity of the contents of education. Future tasks include continuously implementing systematic safety education and evaluation of its effectiveness.
