Research Abstract |
Today there are 90 Brazilian schools in Japan. Not small percentage of them have Japanese language classes. But, they don't have good method of teaching Japanese and they are focusing on the conversation skills without consideration to the content off discipline. On the other side, there are some Brazilian schools that pretend to create bilingual student with good bilingual program. In those schools, we find Paulo Freire Community School. Unfortunately we have not studied well the content and method of bilingual curriculum. Then, the head investigator, working in Paulo Freire Community School, analyzed the method of bilingual education, including Japanese language instruction, and elaborated new bilingual curriculum with "transfer" model to experiment in that school. "Transfer model "means to learn 2^<nd> language or concepts based on the cognitive capability of 1^<st> language that can create balances bilingual student. Another important result of this research may be "Community Bilingual Education" that we could elaborate as new concept from our daily clinical practice. It means collaboration for create bilingual children between Japanese public school and community institutions like our center.
