Research Abstract |
The education of "Life-Dignity" is actually getting worse to a development of children through Life-Science. Therefore, we studied of influences of Life-Science on school textbooks, which was used at school scene (elementary school, junior high school and high school), and analyzed in detail many possibilities of understanding with contents of descriptions about a life-scientific thought on textbooks. As a effective method we carried out the survey on 350 students at 6 universities on "Life-Dignity" from a view of life and death. The result of this survey teach us that they have not been educated sufficiently in their school days about a knowledge of Life-Science. As another trial, we carried out a demonstration class of a teaching about a view of life and death at junior high school. From discussing with pupils and moreover working together with them, we could confirm of a sense of values of the youth about birth and death. This research has for the first time revealed that they wanted to know a profound meaning of the Life with being grounded on reasonable life-scientific thoughts. We gave reports and read papers about these results at a symposium (Institute of Life Science, Sophia Univ. and Tohoku Univ.). As theoretical studies of the value of Life in the western culture, from ancient Greece to the present, a value of Life has not been provided as a single interpretation, for that reason a concept of human dignity was forced to transmute with development of Life-Science. Consequently, a new theme of pedagogy was founded, that is a promotion of dialogue between pedagogy and Life-Science.
