Research Abstract

銀河系の形成・化学進化について、年齢の古い星を中心に、星表面の元素組成解析から調べた。 太陽の約40 万分の1 しか鉄が含まれていない銀河系初期の恒星が発見され、その元素の起源は極新星などによるものと解釈された。また硫黄や亜鉛などの解析から、銀河系初期には大質量星の極新星や超新星が発生しやすく、これらがいろいろな元素の振る舞いを決めていることが判明した。時間が経過すると、鉄を多く作る超新星が発生することで、銀河系の化学進化が支配されることも分かった。
