Research Abstract

(1) Cellulose/inorganic material composite spherical microbeads for environmental composite pigment were made by a phase-separation method using viscose and an aqueous solution containing sodium polyacrylate.
We also report our findings regarding the relationships between cellulose xanthate and the electronic characteristics of TiO_2 particles used in the cellulose/inorganic material composite sphering process. These findings suggest that the location of TiO_2 particles in cellulose microbeads is related to electric repulsion between the CSS-group and Ti0_2. The distribution of TiO_2 particles onto composite spherical microbead surfaces was also evaluated by investigating the removal property of acetaldehyde gas. In addition, cellulose composite spherical microbeads covered with TiO_2 and Fe_2O_3 particles were developed by addition of Fe_2O_3. Their surfaces were observed by Laser microscope and SEM images. These ternary composite microbeads retained the photocatalytic property of TiO_2.
(2) In addition, we focused on the photocatalyst/long persistence phospher composite microbeads that was able to retain photocatalitic property. Especially, CaCO_3 utilized in sphering cellulose microbeads were hybridized with long persistence phospher and photocatalyst Ti02. CaCO_3 used for functional filler generally have aragonite structure. The aragonite structure is formed in aqueous solution. On the other hand, the long persistence phospher, rare-earth alminate phospher MAl_20_4 decomposed in aqueous solution. (These decomposed in cellulose derivative aqueous solution.) Therefore, the composition of CaCO_3 and long persistence phospher had to be carried out in non-aqueous solution. We could be prepared CaCO_3 aragonaite in ethanol solvent.
As results, we could prepare long persistence phospher/TiO_2/CaCO_3 aragonaite composite in ethanol solvent. These composite retained photocatalytic property and long persistence.
