Research Abstract |
In the former research, we had conducted the survey for the physically disabled persons, post-polio persons and post-SCI persons living in the community. First, we conducted the self-report survey with the inventry according to the disability model of ICIDH-2, and then we donducted qualitative interview survey about the amelioration of life satisfaction. In this research, we conducted the survey of same construction for mentally disabled persons with schizophrenia. The objective of this research was to compare the result of mentally disabled persons with the physically disabled persons. First Research: We conducted the self-report survey for the mentally disabled persons with shizophrenia in the community. The inventry was consist of four dimensions, body functions and structure, activity, social participation and environmental factors according to the disability model of ICF. Moreover we added the dimension of life satisfaction. Furthermore, to assess the timecourse of body functions an

d structure, activity, social participation, social participation satisfaction and life satisfaction, we introduced the Visual Analogue Scale for Time Course (VAST). One hundred and thirty five persons responded for the questionnaire. The results showed that mentally disabled persons did not have so much limitations with ADL, but they have nearly the same limitations in the activities with sociality as physically disabled persons. As for the VAST of persons with schizophrenia, the time course of social participation satisfaction and life satisfaction showed the tendency of improvement. Life satisfaction improved after the social participation had improved. On the other hand, the VAST of post-polio persons pointed that the time course of the social participation satisfaction and life satisfaction were analogous, and the VAST of post-SCI persons pointed that the time course of social participation, social participation satisfaction and life satisfactio were analogous. Second Research: We conducted qualitative interview research about the amelioration of life satisfaction. We used the same interview guide as the research of physically disabled persons. Interview guide was consist of 6 grand tour questions, 2 final questions and an additional question. Subjects were persons with schizophrenia whose time after onset was over 15 years and life satisfaction was rising at that time. We interviewed 8 individuals among eligible persons. Analysis was conducted by two ways. First we used descriptive analysis for each question. Second we conducted qualitative data analysis of editing approach. By the two way of analysis, we determined the factors associated with the amelioration of life satisfaction. And we compared the results of the persons with schizophrenia with results of the physically disabled persons. Consequently we classified the factors into three dimensions according to the common points of disabilities. Less
